The studio has an interesting collection of all ages and genders, with the oldest into their 80’s. All are positive thinking individuals who come ready to learn, progress, and in many cases heal. They bring their challenges with optimism and continue to challenge my years of expertise.
At Synergy Pilates we specialize in working with clients over 40 years of age. Of course we have clients of all ages, but many of the classes have been tailored to best suit the 40+ age group.
To better explain, the Pilates Reformer has a set of exercises that involves standing on the machine. For clients who are nervous about being up off the ground while standing on a moving piece of exercise equipment AND perform exercises that involves balance, we have made the decision to omit those exercises from some of our classes. There are plenty of ways to adapt and modify those types of exercises so the same muscle groups are challenged. There are also many exercises for balance that don’t involve taking your feet off the ground.
We also omit some of the exercises that puts weight directly on the upper neck. After 40 or after an injury that has damaged a person neck, it is wise to back-off doing some of these exercises. A person can be extremely fit without doing weight bearing exercises on the neck, so why do them?
I require a person to come into our studio, meet with me and try a few exercises before they enroll in classes. This trial Pilates session that is free allows a client to better understand what they will be doing in their classes and meet the person teaching their class. There is a vast difference between Pilates teachers even within the same studio. You also have the opportunity to discuss any personal current or past injuries so you are sure you will be placed in a class that is suited to your ability.
The next Beginners Pilates session we still have space in starts January 23rd – Thursday morning at 9:15 am.
Looking forward to meeting you!
