The studio has an interesting collection of all ages and genders, with the oldest into their 80’s. All are positive thinking individuals who come ready to learn, progress, and in many cases heal. They bring their challenges with optimism and continue to challenge my years of expertise.
Pilates classes for beginners should be focused on teaching a beginner the correct form, so the body can perform the exercises and maximize it’s potential without injury. Your body does what it is trained to do. If you exercise with your shoulders raised and tense, then you will continue to do so when you are finished exercising.
Beginners Pilates classes should progress slowly at first. If you are expecting a workout that will leave you exhausted as you would in an aerobic workout or a cardio workout, then you will be disappointed. Understanding and learning to feel postural changes takes time. You need to have an instructor who will adjust you when your form is incorrect, otherwise you will continue to make the same mistakes only re-enforcing incorrect body alignment. Injuries are usually caused when a person is trying to push their bodies a little harder and they are misaligned.
