The studio has an interesting collection of all ages and genders, with the oldest into their 80’s. All are positive thinking individuals who come ready to learn, progress, and in many cases heal. They bring their challenges with optimism and continue to challenge my years of expertise.

Parties, cocktails, yummy treats….. it is that time of year again. It’s a shame to be worrying about everything that is going into your mouth when you should be relaxing and having fun with friends and family. Give yourself the O.K. to eat and drink during these holidays as long as you have plan to manage any weight gain.
I was a professional dancer and model in my late teens and early 20’s. How I managed my weight was to to be really careful with food intake and did ample exercise before the holiday partying started. Then I allocated a FREE period of time where I could eat and drink what I wanted, (usually 2 weeks), knowing I would probably put on some weight. I also had a plan for the period directly after the binge and promised myself that I would stick to that plan, even if the parties continued beyond my 2 week free period.
Pilates is the best exercise for attacking those few inches gained. The plan I used included a diet of healthy foods, especially those with little to no sugar. I also did Pilates exercises daily for a couple of weeks. There is nothing better than Pilates for toning and battling the blug. We all have areas of our bodies that accumulates fat quicker than other areas. Pilates has exercises that will target those precise areas and those are the exercises you need to focus on for that first week or two to get the weight off before it gets too settled.
Pilates mat exercises can be done at home for about 10 minutes daily and are excellent way to keep muscles toned between classes. The Pilates Reformer exercise machine is another step up. The multiple tension cords increases the resistance on the muscles being used and results happen faster. A flowing 30 minute workout on the Reformer, 2 or 3 times per week, will give you the fast results you are looking for. This machine is amazing!
My Pilates students are planning their January classes now. Many of them are doing an extra class per week for the first session back after the holidays and then will cut back after the extra weight is off and their bodies are back to their usual form. Their plan is to thoroughly enjoy their holidays knowing they have an effective, quick and healthy way to lose any weight gain during Christmas.
