The studio has an interesting collection of all ages and genders, with the oldest into their 80’s. All are positive thinking individuals who come ready to learn, progress, and in many cases heal. They bring their challenges with optimism and continue to challenge my years of expertise.
Pilates is more than a physical workout session. ” Mindful movement”, a term often associated with the flow of Pilates exercises, can confuse people when they first begin Pilates classes. My job as Pilates instructor is to teach this new way of moving so the students can feel their way through each of the exercises. They will feel new muscles in their body and become aware of balance and inner strength.
Muscle toning and firming will be noticed usually about the 4th or 5th class and that’s when student’s start to get excited.
When the body begins to heal and strengthen through correct movement the student feels empowered. You do not need to grind away at exercises doing an extra 20 reps to become stronger. In fact, those last few reps are when a person hurts themselves.
You can safely start Pilates classes at any age. All you can do is to try. You might be surprised.
