The studio has an interesting collection of all ages and genders, with the oldest into their 80’s. All are positive thinking individuals who come ready to learn, progress, and in many cases heal. They bring their challenges with optimism and continue to challenge my years of expertise.
Meet Julie Akin
Julie is a former professional ballet dancer, aerobics teacher and personal coach for international models, Julie brings over 35 years of teaching experience to her Ocean Park | South Surrey Pilates studio that opened in 2009. She specializes in working with people over 40 using her style of modified classic Pilates which helped her regain her range of motion and muscle strength after a complicated shoulder surgery. She does not recommend a “Boot Camp” approach to Pilates, especially as people age.
“As your teacher it is my mission to make exercise a treat, something you look forward to, and something you are not willing to give up, well into your senior years. My job is to teach and heal through movement.”
“I look forward to working with each and every one of you. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.”
The Synergy Philosophy
- All group classes are a maximum of 4 people. Individuals get plenty of guidance and there is lots of space for people to move freely so they don’t feel cramped.
- Classes need to be fun. A one hour class should fly by.
- The theory, “no pain, no gain” is not used in our classes. It is more beneficial to do less repetitions correctly than do many the wrong way.
